Our workshop, “When Disaster Strikes” was a big hit at the Canadian Museums Association 2015 Conference held in Banff, Alberta. Michael Harrington facilitated the session with a lively group of participants. The workshop “covered ideas that I never knew may be an issue, and assisted in learning how to make our disaster plan more effective”, said one participant. The workshop was a major success, thanks to the provocative and thoughtful contributions of guest speakers, who shared their experiences in dealing with disasters: Anton Antonov (XL Insurance), Irene Karsten (Canadian Conservation Institute), Irene Kerr (Museum of the Highwood), Jesse Moffatt (National Music Centre), and Gail Niinimaa (Niinimaa Entreprises, Inc.). We would also like to acknowledge the generous contribution of the Alberta Museums Association in making the workshop possible.
