Our work on issues and circumstances of relevance to Aboriginal
Peoples has also been a rewarding part of what we do.
Originally from the prairies, Wanda Jamieson has evaluated a number of
projects and initiatives concerning Aboriginal Peoples. This includes:
an evaluation of the Aboriginal Women’s Program Family Violence
Initiative; contributing to federal evaluations of the Aboriginal Representative
Organizations Program and the Aboriginal Women’s Program for the
Department of Canadian Heritage; conducting learning circles with Aboriginal
women who are actively working on family violence issues in their communities;
evaluating the “Nuluaq Project” on behalf of Pauktuutit Inuit
Women of Canada; evaluation of a culturally appropriate Family Violence
Strategy for Inuit communities; and working again with Pauktuutit Inuit
Women of Canada on evaluating a project to advance the development of
community models to address family violence, including ‘on the land’
and family counseling projects. Currently, in collaboration with Centre
for Initiatives on Children, Youth and Community (CICYC) at Carleton University,
the government of Nunavut, and selected Nunavut communities, JHG is contributing
to the development of a resource tool on sustaining community action for
healthier and safer communites.
